The Adulting 101 series included 8 workshops hosted on a weekly basis from 10 April - 26 May 2025, aimed at equipping students with practical, real-life skills for a smoother transition into adulthood. Each week, students engaged in interactive, hands-on sessions designed to build confidence, independence, and awareness of essential life competencies.
Workshop 1 - How to Write an Effective CV and Cover Letter

Students learnt to craft compelling CVs and cover letters using AI tools and smart prompts to tailor and optimize content. The workshop emphasized ATS-friendly formatting, keyword alignment, and personal branding & development tips to stand out in the job market.

This session focused on structuring speeches, reducing presentation anxiety, and effectively engaging audiences. Students gained essential communication skills for academic and professional success.

Students were taught how to transform their LinkedIn profiles into personal branding tools. The discussion was focused on optimizing profile sections using AI, verifying profile elements, increasing visibility, connecting with mentors, and maintaining an active presence through strategic posting.

This practical session covered weekly meal prep tips, provided students with a customizable grocery list, and a guide to essential kitchen tools. A live demo showed students how to prepare a 3-course meal (a salad, breaded chicken, and a creamy pasta dish) using just a microwave and air fryer—perfect for students with limited kitchen access.

Led by Mr. Basheer, this hands-on session taught students how to safely change a tire and handle routine car checks. From checking the oil and coolant levels, to recognizing dashboard warning lights, the workshop focused on building confidence and self-reliance for everyday car issues and emergencies.

Dr. Aqil Waqar Khan equipped students with the tools to take control of their finances in the U.A.E. Topics included the 50/30/20 budgeting rule, emergency funds, investment options, debt management, credit scores, and insurance essentials, emphasizing that with informed planning, financial independence is within reach-even in a high-expense, tax-free environment.

Mr. McQueer offered a practical overview of the UAE rental process. Students learned to read tenancy contracts, understand their rights, budget for rent and hidden costs, and manage agents and landlords—preparing them for informed, independent living.

Ms. Colaco opened the session with a reflection on the academic year, followed by a Goal Mapping exercise across six areas: Professional, Personal, Health, Financial, Community, and Passion. Students also received a “Summer Toolkit” with resources and free online platforms to stay productive and upskill.

The Adulting 101 workshop series concluded with a special closing ceremony, where students were awarded certificates for attending all 8 workshops. Dr. Richa Arora, COO & Head of Institution, University of Stirling RAK Campus, addressed the gathering and commended the students for their commitment towards personal growth and life skill development.
