Ms. Sowmya Baskar

Assistant Professor

Ms. Sowmya Baskar is an experienced academic and researcher with over 25 years of teaching experience in Computer Science and Information Technology. Ms. Baskar currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Stirling, Ras Al Khaimah Campus, UAE, with a commitment to delivering high-quality education and fostering innovation in computing and digital technologies.

A Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science, a Master’s degree in Information Technology, and an M.Phil. in Computer Science were completed at reputed universities in India, with UAE qualification equivalency also obtained for these academic credentials. In recognition of a commitment to excellence in higher education, Ms. Baskar has been awarded the Fellowship of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Educational Technology, and Intelligent Systems. Research has been presented at leading international conferences, including the IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference, where Ms. Baskar co-authored the paper “A Framework for Predicting the Students at Risk Using AI: A Case Study” (2023). Ms. Baskar is also a co-holder of a UK Design Patent for an AI-based Hyperspectral Imaging Device for Plant Disease Monitoring, reflecting contributions to interdisciplinary research that combines artificial intelligence with precision agriculture. Through teaching, research, and scholarly activities, contributions continue toward advancing knowledge and preparing students for the rapidly evolving field of computing.
