Sowmya Baskar is an experienced academic, researcher, and higher education professional with over 25 years of teaching experience in Computer Science and Information Technology. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Stirling, Ras Al Khaimah Campus, UAE, where she is dedicated to delivering high-quality teaching, promoting student engagement, and fostering innovation in computing and digital technologies.
She holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science, a Master's degree in Information Technology, and an M.Phil. in Computer Science from reputed universities in India. She has also received UAE qualification equivalency for her academic credentials. In recognition of her commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, she has been awarded the Fellowship of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA), reflecting her dedication to maintaining high standards in higher education.
Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Educational Technology, Intelligent Systems, and applied computing. She has actively contributed to the academic community by presenting her research at internationally recognised conferences, including the IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference. Her research focuses on the practical application of emerging technologies to address real-world challenges and improve educational outcomes.
She is also a co-holder of a UK Design Patent for an AI-based Hyperspectral Imaging Device for Plant Disease Monitoring, highlighting her contribution to interdisciplinary research that combines artificial intelligence with precision agriculture.
Through her teaching, research, and scholarly activities, Sowmya strives to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice by creating engaging, practical, and inclusive learning experiences. She is committed to supporting students throughout their learning journey, empowering them to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and critical thinking abilities needed to succeed in their academic studies and future professional careers.
