Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance
Ms. Thasneem Shamsudeen is an Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance, an ACCA member, tax consultant, and researcher with extensive experience in higher education, professional accounting education, and industry practice across the UAE. A PhD in Management (Finance) is currently being pursued at Management and Science University, Malaysia, with research focusing on ESG performance, firm valuation, corporate governance, and financial sustainability, alongside EAAA membership and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
An MSc in Professional Accountancy was completed from the University of London with Merit, along with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Birla Institute of Technology with First Class with Distinction. The academic background is strongly focused on Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Taxation, Financial Management, and Professional Accountancy Education.
Association with the University of Stirling, RAK, as an Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance began on 29 August 2025. Prior to this, work with the University of Greater Manchester, RAK, from 2021 to 2025 spanned multiple academic leadership roles including Course Manager and Senior Lecturer for undergraduate, postgraduate, and ACCA programmes. A Lecturer role at Northwood University has been held since 2022, alongside a contribution as Teaching Instructor and Internal Verifier for Advanced Diploma programmes during 2020–2021. Earlier still, an ACCA Lecturer role was held at Birla Institute of Technology from 2019 to 2020.

In addition to academia, active involvement in providing tax consultancy and accounting advisory services to companies in the UAE has continued since 2019, supporting businesses with VAT registration, VAT return filing, corporate tax registration, tax compliance support, bookkeeping advisory, and preparation of financial statements. Work with SMEs and business owners across different sectors has assisted them in maintaining financial compliance and improving accounting and reporting practices.
Practical industry experience also includes a role as Client Accountant at Nishe Management Consultancy, handling financial reporting, accounting operations, taxation services, and VAT compliance for multiple clients.
Active contributions to academic development, student mentoring, and professional education initiatives include being featured in the “Real Faces” of ACCA Middle East, and facilitating skill enhancement workshops for students and aspiring professionals. Mentoring also extends to candidates pursuing PgCert qualifications in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
Research interests include ESG performance, firm valuation, corporate governance, taxation, personal finance, financial stability, and accounting education, with a focus on integrating academic knowledge with industry practice, creating impactful learning experiences, and contributing meaningfully to finance education, taxation consultancy, and research.
